This little kitty came to us almost a week ago. We had a naming contest -- with lots of GREAT suggestions -- and Smudge came out on top. He and Lincoln (Melissa's golden retriever) are learning to get along, but he still hisses most any time they come in close contact. Lincoln is understandably a bit jealous with all the attention this kitten is receiving from everyone who comes to the barn. He's most curious (aren't all cats?) and is mastering the barn office environs. As he gets older, he gets bolder, and soon we'll put him to work as the barn mouser. Love you, Smudge!
Barbara and Vinnie came to the farm and gave a demonstration on how to massage our horses with Equistix. This tool was thoroughly enjoyed by the four big horses. While some almost fell asleep, Star -- when the person massaging him stopped for a moment to speak with someone -- turned around and with one look told her to, "Get back with that stick!" Our horses aren't spoiled... are they?
The BITS crew is hard at work developing a Sensory Trail for our riders. There are many elements that will stimulate the senses for both horse and rider, so we're getting the horses acquainted first. Gideon and Pretzel did very well!
Mr. Jingles mixed and mingled with the families who enjoyed a day of fun, food and riding classes. He wants you to stay tuned, because photos will be coming soon!
Brandy's getting a feel-good scratching from the bug bites she got. Ooooohhh... there...THERE... yeah.
With 685 bales of hay being delivered, of course some loose bits would be flying around the barn... Rainbow Dash - ever the opportunist - had charmed a little helper who left some bits behind. It was a great day with 20+ volunteers to help out. It was perfect! Thank you everyone!
We've had quite the mud season here at BITS... it looks like we're over the worst of it, but we still have a little way to go until it's all gone. The riding arena can be partially used - yay! The horses are kicking up their heels with the fresh air and sunshine. And... as you can see, Gideon has found a non-muddy spot. We all think he looks rather handsome with the daffodils!
Mystique hopes you'll leave some messages for her. She doesn't quite 'get it' about Blogs, but she loves all the attention she can get!
